Five cities in Guangdong province signed 12 projects worth 13.2 billion yuan ($1.82 billion) with Hong Kong enterprises recently at a Guangdong-Hong Kong business community exchange conference (Pearl River’s west bank session) in Jiangmen.
The projects cover polymer materials, precision molds, offshore wind power, new agriculture and water environment management. Half of the projects are expected to launch in Jiangmen, while Zhongshan, Zhanjiang, Maoming and Yangjiang — all located in the western part of the province — are also participating.
“I rarely visited the west of Guangdong before, and I didn’t expect to find such a rich history, abundant culture, and vast territory here. The potential is limitless,” says Cheng Cheung-ling, president of the Hong Kong China Friendship Association. A delegation of Hong Kong business communities led by Cheng visited the area from April 8 to 10.

She said she expects closer and mutually beneficial cooperation between the Hong Kong business community and Jiangmen in industrial development, technological innovation, and green development.
Jiangmen Mayor Wu Xiaohui said the potential of the western bank of the Pearl River will get a further boost when the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel and the Huangmaohai Sea-crossing Channel come operation this year.
She said the city is ready to assist Hong Kong and Macao companies and young entrepreneurs to thrive in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and realize their dreams in Jiangmen.
Chen Weijie, vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization, suggests Hong Kong enterprises pay more visits to mainland cities in the GBA.
“Hong Kong excels in scientific research, while mainland cities have strong advantages in well-established industrial chains and a solid medical foundation. This allows for complementary collaboration between the two,” he said.
