HONG KONG - Central and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region governments lashed out at a United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) report containing what has been described as “untruthful remarks, slanders and smears about Hong Kong”.

They urged the United States politicians to stop interfering in the affairs of the SAR, which are purely China's internal affairs.

A spokesman for the HKSAR government said Hong Kong said the USCC's report is another maneuver to put politics before the rule of law

A spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said that it would be clear from an unbiased point of view that Hong Kong is ushering in a new era with transition from stability to prosperity, and the practice of "one country, two systems" has been implemented steadfastly.

The spokesman pointed out that the recently issued USCC report was replete with a deep-rooted bias against China and another instance of irresponsible remarks about China.

The office urged US politicians to assess the real situation in Hong Kong and make positive contributions to the development of China-United States relations and not the opposite.

A spokesman for the HKSAR government said Hong Kong said the USCC's report is another maneuver to put politics before the rule of law. The spokesman reiterated that the Hong Kong SAR is an inalienable part of China and it enjoyed a high degree of autonomy under “one country, two systems”. The HKSAR government said relevant United States politicians should be able to discern fact from fallacy and immediately stop acting against international law and basic norms that govern international relations. It also urged them not to interfere in the affairs of the HKSAR, which are purely China's internal affairs.
