HONG KONG - A committee created by a charity organization to look into suspected maltreatment in a child care center should conduct a comprehensive review of the alleged incident, the Social Welfare Department said on Saturday.

In a statement, the department said it hopes the committee that Po Leung Kuk established will conduct a comprehensive and in-depth review and make recommendations on “improvement proposals and measures”.

After unearthing a suspected child maltreatment incident during its inspection at the centre on Sept 16, the SWD has required Po Leung Kuk to take follow-up actions, including the submission of special incident reports, a thorough investigation into the incident, and tendering a detailed and comprehensive report.

The SWD said it will review and study the report while continuing to closely monitor the management, services and operations of the child care center to ensure compliance with the law and service quality and child protection requirements.
