CSL: Shandong Taishan wins opener, Guangzhou FC salvages derby draw

GUANGZHOU - Shandong Taishan made a flying start to the new Chinese Super League (CSL) season as Brazilian striker Leonardo grabbed a debut goal in a 2-0 win over Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic on Tuesday night.

23-year-old Leonardo enjoyed his debut and showed he can be a goal threat when he broke the deadlock with a header on 53 minutes, with Guo Tianyu sealing the win late on.

Guangzhou City drew 2-2 with city rivals Guangzhou FC in the day's other game. A Lan broke the deadlock with a powerful header for Guangzhou FC in the seventh minute from Liao Lisheng's cross.

But City fought back nine minutes later, with Huang Zhengyu's cross deflecting off the unfortunate Guangzhou FC defender Yan Dinghao and into the net.

Yan atoned by earning a penalty on 39 minutes, but Ai Kesen's shot was saved by Guangzhou City keeper Han Jiaqi.

City took the lead in the 51st minute when Guilherme's superb cross-field pass picked out Ye Chugui to score. However, Wu Shaocong made it 2-2 with a late header for Guangzhou FC.

The CSL's upcoming games see Henan Songshan Longmen take on Shenzhen FC on Wednesday, while Qingdao FC will face Cangzhou Mighty Lions.
