HONG KONG - Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Arnaldo de Oliveira Sales on Friday, who was the honorary president of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
Arnaldo de Oliveira Sales was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1998 in recognition of his efforts in promoting amateur sports and the Olympic Games in Hong Kong
"I am saddened by the passing of Mr. Sales. On behalf of the HKSAR government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family," Lam said in a statement.
"Mr. Sales was committed to the development of sports in Hong Kong all his life, making tremendous contributions and leaving a lasting impact," Lam said.
Sales, aged 100, is one of the founding members of the federation. He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1998 in recognition of his efforts in the promotion of amateur sports and the Olympic Games in Hong Kong.
In a statement, the federation also expressed deep condolences for the passing away of Sales.
