Vietnam to focus on Olympic sports at Southeast Asian Games in 2021

HANOI - Vietnam will focus on Olympic events at the 31st Southeast Asian Games to be held in its capital city of Hanoi in 2021, which will feature the largest number of Olympic sports in the event's history, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

The event next year will feature all the Olympic sports, along with several traditional sports, the news agency cited an official with Vietnam's National Sports Administration as saying.

As the region's biggest sporting event, it will feature 36 sports, two-thirds of which will be competed at the Olympic Games and Asian Games, the news agency reported, adding that shuttlecock, diving and vovinam, a Vietnamese traditional martial arts, have been added to the list of sports.

Vietnam won 98 golds, 85 silvers and 105 bronzes, ranking second at the Southeast Asian Games last year in the Philippines.
