Macao international film festival kicks off with Juliette Binoche

MACAO — The fourth International Film Festival and Awards of Macao (IFFAM) has kicked off in China's Macao Special Administrative Region, with a total of 50 feature films and six short films from around the world to be shown on the big screens.

The six-day event, starting on Thursday, includes three competition sections, such as International Competition, New Chinese Cinema and Shorts Competition

It also has seven non-competition sections including World Panorama, Flying Daggers, Gala, Special Presentations, the 20th Anniversary of the Macao SAR’s Special Presentations, Director’s Choice and Macao Short Film Special Presentation.

French actress Juliette Binoche, Chinese actress Carina Lau and South Korean singer Junmyeon Kim (SUHO) were appointed as Talent Ambassadors in the film festival. Chinese film director Peter Chan Ho-sun was the president of the Jury of the International Competition section.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, this year’s festival also presents a special section titled “the 20th Anniversary of the Macao SAR’s Special Presentations.”

The awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on Tuesday.
