The 2026 “Future Star” and “Fan Changjiang Action” summer activities summary and sharing session took place on Saturday at the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Center to review the summer programs’ achievements and share their insights and the personal growth of Hong Kong youth as they visited and discovered the Chinese mainland.

Organized by Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, with support from the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and co-organized by the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, the event aimed to build an exchange platform for students participating in the two activities, summarizing their practical achievements and encouraging students to integrate the insights gained from their journeys into their future studies and daily lives.

“As the nation embarks on the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and marks the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army’s Long March, holding the joint summary session at the PLA Hong Kong Garrison for the first time carries profound significance at this historic intersection of heritage and progress,” said Zheng Yongnan – vice-chairman and general manager of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group.

He urged students to inherit Fan Changjiang’s patriotic spirit and pursuit of truth, while maintaining youthful vitality, sharpen their competence through practical experience and serve as a bridge to share China’s stories with the world.

“The HKSAR government has always attached great importance to youth development,” said Clarence Leung Wang-ching – under-secretary for home and youth affairs. “Our vision is to nurture our young people into a new generation with affection for the country and Hong Kong, equipped with a global perspective, ambition, and positive thinking.”

He hopes Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group will continue its close cooperation with the bureau to create more exchange, internship, and development opportunities on the mainland, benefiting a broader range of Hong Kong youth.

This summer, “Future Star” invited more than 60 Hong Kong students to participate in study tours in Shaanxi and Hainan provinces, while “Fan Changjiang Action” mobilized more than 160 students from about 30 tertiary institutions in the SAR to conduct field reporting along six distinct routes.

Wang Yingzhong – a second-grade inspector at the Publicity Department of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region Party Committee -- noted that the “Fan Changjiang Action Inner Mongolia Tour” has been successfully held for 11 consecutive years since 2015.

Over 360 Hong Kong media students have been invited to experience and document Inner Mongolia through on-site or online reporting.

“Next year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region,” Wang noted. “We sincerely invite everyone to visit Inner Mongolia again to jointly depict a grand vision for Inner Mongolia's new chapter in Chinese modernization.”

Li Shuangzhou -- deputy director of the Political Department of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison -- encouraged students to embrace the spirit of the Long March, gain a deeper understanding of the country through observation and first-hand experience, and make good use of their role as a bridge connecting Hong Kong and the mainland.

During the student sharing session, participants from “Future Star” and “Fan Changjiang Action” jointly presented an original stage play entitled Forever on The Road, bringing their insights, reflections, and experiences from the summer journeys to life on stage.

Pang Hoi-lam, a fourth-year student at Hong Kong Baptist University and a participant in the summer program, said the event has exposed her to various fields, including technological development, industrial shifts, historical sites, and arts and culture, far beyond news interviewing and writing.

She said the published works from the event could become part of her personal portfolio, which may help her in future job hunting.

“Even only viewing it as an itinerary that combines learning with traveling, it remains an exceptional memory,” Pang said. “Taking time out to witness the grand landscapes of the motherland and experience places I had never visited before is truly meaningful.”
