PYONGYANG – A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said on Wednesday that her country will use loudspeakers for psychological warfare against the Republic of Korea (ROK) along the border this month, according to the state media.

Kim Yo-jong, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, made the remarks in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim confirmed she had inspected the country's southern border in the early hours of Wednesday with Pak Jong-chon, advisor to the Ministry of National Defense of the DPRK.

Noting that the southern border had "turned into a fortress," Kim said the country's security was guaranteed qualitatively.

She accused the ROK of committing "provocative warning loudspeaker blaring and shots again in at least two spots" on Wednesday, according to the KCNA report.

"Our tactical hunting teams are taking new positions, and within October, the loudspeakers for psychological warfare against the ROK will be in operation along the whole border," said Kim.

She warned that if the ROK's warning shots resulted in actual harm to the DPRK's territorial security or the safety of its service personnel, the country's border guards would show "no mercy."

During the inspection at the southern border, Pak instructed the DPRK troops to "never pardon" enemy troops but "launch prompt and resolute action" if they are under safety threat by provocations of "warning loudspeaker blaring" and shots from across the border, the KCNA report said.

Noting the importance of proactive measures for protecting the lives and safety of the DPRK service personnel, he said that "now is the time to organize the firepower strong enough to strike terror into the enemy's heart," according to the KCNA report.

Kim said a new batch of firepower units has been deployed to combat positions, noting that the head of state of the DPRK has issued an order to fortify the southern border, intending to make it "eternally impregnable," and that "there will be never ever compromise in exercising our territorial sovereignty," the KCNA report said.

"Nothing can stem the historical process of the fortification of the DPRK's southern border," the report quoted Kim as saying.
