Swire Symphony Under the Stars set for November HK return

HONG KONG — The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) has announced the return of its free annual outdoor mega-concert, Swire Symphony Under the Stars, at Central Harbourfront on Nov 13.

For the first time, HK Phil Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski will take the helm, leading an evening of eclectic music for families and friends.

He will be joined by Van Cliburn Gold Medal winner Aristo Sham on two pianos for Saint-Saëns’s playful Carnival of the Animals. HK Phil Principal Clarinet Andrew Simon and vocalist Talie Monin will perform Gershwin favorites. Following John Williams’s Star Wars Suite, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture will close the night with fireworks. Mayanne Mak returns as the presenter.

Tickets are free through an online ballot. Registration runs from 10 am on Oct 16 to 7 pm on Oct 20 at suts.hkphil.org/reg. Applicants may request up to four tickets, must provide a name, a valid email address and a mobile number, and may submit only one entry.

Results will be published on the same website on Oct 23. Successful applicants will receive QR-coded e-tickets by email.

The concert will also be streamed live on the HK Phil website, Facebook, YouTube and WeChat channels, plus SwireThrive and Swire Pacific Facebook pages, and broadcast on RTHK TV31, the RTHK website and CCTV.com.
