A thunderstorm area associated with an active southerly airstream is affecting the eastern part of Hong Kong on Monday, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected shortly.

The Hong Kong Observatory advised residents at 8:40 am to monitor weather updates closely, warning that strong gusts of wind were expected to continue across the territory. People outdoors were urged to seek immediate shelter in a safe location.

It’ll be generally cloudy on Monday, with occasional showers and squally thunderstorms, accompanied by some heavy rain early in the morning. The weather is expected to clear partially during the day, with a maximum temperature of about 31 degrees Celsius.
