China said that it supports Thailand in trying and severely punishing those responsible for the 2015 Bangkok bombing in accordance with the law on Thursday, after a Thai court sentenced two men to death over the attack.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks when asked to comment on the verdict in the long-delayed case.

"The terrorist bombing that year caused the deaths of 20 people, including seven Chinese citizens, and left more than 100 others injured," Lin said. "The perpetrators were utterly inhuman and committed heinous crimes."

"China supports Thailand in trying the case in accordance with the law and severely punishing the perpetrators," he added.
