The annual Digital Education Week 2026 got underway on Monday, unveiling a weeklong flagship education technology extravaganza that will bring together more than 20,000 world stakeholders in accelerating artificial intelligence-powered digital transformation in schools.
The event, to run from June 21 to 27, was launched at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Education Bureau and Hong Kong Education City. It comprises two core segments -- the International Summit on the Use of AI in Language Learning and Teaching 2026 (AIinLT 2026) and the 16th Learning and Teaching Expo 2026.
AIinLT 2026, co-organized by the Education Bureau, SCOLAR and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will open on the morning of June 21 at the university’s Jockey Club Auditorium. The four-day gathering’s theme is “Artificial Intelligence in Language Education: From Conception, Practice to Impact”, with 74 paper presentations, 19 teaching demonstrations and 23 hands-on workshops to equip educators with practical AI skills for language instruction.

“This year, the Education Bureau is again organizing Digital Education Week to actively get schools to step up digital transformation. This is not only a technological revolution but also marks the transformation of teaching paradigms and the reshaping of the education ecosystem, as students’ learning methods and teachers’ teaching models have undergone profound and rapid changes,” said Edith Tse Yuen-ching, principal assistant secretary (innovation technology education) of the Education Bureau.
She said the event will share the latest policies, best practices and resources to strengthen students’ digital literacy.

Katharine Choi Man-yee, principal assistant secretary (education infrastructure), emphasized the summit’s human-centered mission.
“The core philosophy is to let teachers not just understand AI, but drive AI. The value of technology lies not in replacing teachers, but in empowering them to precisely meet students’ learning needs,” she said. “The summit will keep Hong Kong’s education sector in sync with global developments in AI language education.”
Following the summit, the Learning and Teaching Expo 2026 will be held from June 25 to 27 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, showcasing over 600 exhibitors and 300 sessions under the theme “Reimagining Education: Human-Centric, Future-Ready”.

A landmark new feature is the inaugural Parent Summit to address parenting challenges in the AI era.
“In the era of rapid AI development, technology is a tool, and the core of education is always people,” said Tenny Lam Fung, executive director of EdCity. “Every aspect of the event centers on student growth and teacher empowerment as we build a collaborative digital education ecosystem,” he said.
Building on last year’s 24,000 participants, Digital Education Week 2026 signals Hong Kong’s commitment to nurturing future talent equipped with robust digital competencies and AI literacy.
