
Hong Kong is expected to see colder weather during the first few days of the New Year, with the mercury dropping to as low as 13 degrees Celsius on Friday and 12°C on Saturday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
The HKO said the temperature in city will range from 18°C to 21°C on Wednesday, New Year's Eve, and 16°C to 21°C on Thursday, but a surge of the northeast monsoon is expected to reach coastal areas on Thursday evening.
“Temperatures will fall appreciably, and it will be cold over inland areas in the following couple of days,” the observatory said.

Ta Kwu Ling in the New Territories could see a low of 9°C on Friday and 7°C the next day, while Sheung Shui and Shek Kong could both log 9°C on Saturday.
In Hong Kong Island, the mercury in Wong Chuk Hang could drop to 12°C on Friday and 11°C on Saturday.
The temperature difference between day and night will be rather large over inland areas, the observatory said.
It said weather in Hong Kong will be fine in the next few days and daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly before they start to fall again on New Year's Eve.

“An easterly airstream will affect the coast of southern China gradually on New Year's Eve, it will be cloudier over the region,” the HKO said.
The temperature in the city will range between 13°C to 19°C next Sunday, it added.
