Many major service industries in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region recorded year-on-year increases in their income in the third quarter of the year, official data showed on Tuesday.

Double-digit increases were recorded in business receipts indices of the insurance (+40.7 percent), financing (+31.4 percent), import/export trade (+24.5 percent) and banking (+12.9 percent) industries in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, according to the provisional figures from the Census and Statistics Department.

Analyzed by service domain, business receipts index of the computer and information technology services domain increased by 99.1 percent year-on-year during the same period, while that of the tourism, convention and exhibition services domain also increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year.

An HKSAR government spokesman said the business of the service industries as a whole should continue to expand.

Sustained moderate growth of the global economy, coupled with easing trade tensions, should provide support to trade-related sectors, he said.

The spokesman said that continued improvement in local consumer sentiment, sustained growth in visitor arrivals, vibrant financial market activities, and the SAR government's various measures to develop the economy and diversify markets will continue to bode well for various service industries.

Nevetheless, the impact of external uncertainties on certain industries still warrants close attention, he added.
