BEIRUT - An Israeli drone attack targeted a vehicle in southern Lebanon on Saturday, killing one Hezbollah member, according to sources and reports.

A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the person killed in the Israeli strike was a Hezbollah member, identified as Hadi Ali Khnafer from the village of Ainata.

Meanwhile, the National News Agency reported that the drone strike targeted with four missiles the vehicle between the villages of Aitaroun and Ainata in the Bint Jbeil district in southern Lebanon.

Since Nov 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, brokered by the United States and France, has been in effect, ending clashes that erupted between them following the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza.

Despite the agreement, Israel still occupies key positions in southern Lebanon and continues to carry out airstrikes in southern and eastern areas, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah "threats".

Also on Saturday, six Lebanese Army soldiers were killed and an unspecified number of others injured when a weapons depot exploded during an inspection and dismantling operation carried out by an army unit in the city of Tyre, southern Lebanon.

The army said in a statement that, "An explosion occurred inside the depot, resulting in an initial toll of six soldiers martyred."

It added that "follow-up is underway to determine the causes of the incident."

The National News Agency reported that munitions left over from the "Israeli aggression" in the south exploded while an army engineering team was dismantling some shells in the area.

A source in the Lebanese Red Cross told Xinhua that "its teams transported the bodies of dead army personnel and a number of injured to hospitals in the city of Tyre".
