Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has expressed his confidence that members of the new-term Legislative Council will actively engage with the community and various sectors and lead the deepening reforms with the special administrative region government to create a shared future together.
In a statement issued after the announcement of the election results on Monday morning, Lee congratulated the winners in Sunday's LegCo election.
Pointing out that the community has gone through a difficult period brought by the deadly Tai Po fire, which left at least 159 people dead, he expressed his hope that the eighth-term LegCo members will join hands with the SAR government to undertake support and recovery work following the tragedy.
“Through initiating debates, promoting the review and updating of legislation, and driving systemic reforms, we will make Hong Kong a safer city where citizens could live with greater peace of mind.”
