ASDF jet crashes off east Japan, lone pilot rescued

TOKYO - A Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) F2 fighter jet crashed on Thursday off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture in eastern Japan during a training exercise, with the lone pilot rescued after escaping from the aircraft.

The pilot ejected from the jet at around 12:35 pm local time and was not in a life-threatening condition after being rescued, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing the ASDF.

The ASDF is confirming further details of the accident.
