BANGKOK - Thailand's Constitutional Court on Wednesday set a deadline for suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to submit a defense in her ethics violation case after granting a final extension.

In a statement, the court said a panel of judges agreed 5-4 to set a final deadline for Paetongtarn to respond to the allegations on Aug 4, citing her request to seek an additional 15 days to gather evidence necessary to complete the defense.

The court said this would be the final extension, and if no additional documents are submitted by the deadline, it will proceed with the case based on the existing evidence.

On July 1, the court suspended Paetongtarn after accepting the case petitioned by a group of senators seeking her removal from office over a leaked phone call on border issue with Cambodia.
