The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s National Security Exhibition Gallery on Saturday welcomed its one-millionth visitor since it opened in August last year.

The gallery’s one-millionth visitor was a group of Primary 3 students from Po Leung Kuk Luk Hing Too Primary School, who visited the gallery with their teacher, according to a statement issued by the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR.

The eleven students and their teacher received a commemorative certificate and a trophy from Secretary General of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR Au Chi-kwong, the officiating guest at the ceremony.

Au said the highest single-day attendance at the gallery, located along Chatham Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, exceeded 13,000.

"National security is like sunshine, air and water. When you have it but do not treasure it, you will regret when losing it,” he said.

“The 'black-clad violence' and the Hong Kong version of the 'color revolution' in 2019 has inflicted wounds and damage on Hong Kong that we will never forget. We must not forget the pain as wounds heal; we must remain ever vigilant to safeguard national security, and ensure high-quality development with high-level security,” he added.

The National Security Exhibition Gallery is the first national security education base in the HKSAR. It aims to enhance public awareness of national security, foster patriotism, encourage active participation in safeguarding national security, and showcase the SAR's unique advantages of being backed by the motherland while being connected to the world.

"By visiting the gallery, the public can deepen their understanding of national security and further strengthen the collective effort to safeguard it," Au said.
