The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government is partnering with local businesses and community groups to host over 100 events across the city in celebration of the 28th anniversary of its return to the motherland on July 1.
As part of the festivities, public transportation operators will offer free rides to residents and tourists alike. Here’s how you can take advantage of these offers:
Free MTR Tickets
The MTR will distribute 71,000 e-single journey tickets through a lucky draw on July 1 (please note that this excludes routes such as the Airport Express, High-speed Rail, Light Rail, East Rail Line First Class, Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau journeys, and MTR Bus services).
Registered users can enter the draw by tapping the lucky draw button in the MTR Mobile app between 9 AM and 6 PM on July 1. Winners will be notified instantly, and their e-single journey tickets will be credited to their MTR Mobile accounts. To redeem the tickets, winners should visit “My collections” in the app and follow the instructions to transfer the prize to “My tickets.”
Free Tram Rides
All tram rides will be free from July 1 to July 3, sponsored by six mainland companies.
Free Ferry Rides
On July 1, all ferry rides between Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui will be free, thanks to sponsorship from Sinopec.
Free rides will be available on the Central-Hung Hom route and the North Point-Kwun Tong-Kai Tak route on July 1. Tickets will be distributed at the following locations from June 26 to July 1:
