Myanmar, Russia to hold joint naval exercise in Andaman Sea

YANGON - Myanmar and Russia will hold a joint naval exercise on Nov 7-9 in northern waters of the Andaman Sea, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar daily has reported.

The joint exercise will include aerial and underwater drills, and maritime security exercises with live firing, the media report said on Sunday.

Russian warships carrying a total of 800 sailors have arrived in Myanmar since Nov 2 to conduct the first Myanmar-Russia maritime security exercise and pay a friendship visit, it said.

As a safety precaution, the Myanmar navy has warned that ships will be restricted within a 8-km radius of the exercise area, and aircraft are advised not to fly below an altitude of 46,875 meters during the training days, it said.
