Showcase in diversity: HK culture week comes to Wuhan

HONG KONG - Hong Kong is bringing remarkable arts performances to Wuhan as the culture program “Hong Kong Week@Wuhan” kicked off Wednesday in the capital city of central China’s Hubei province a year after it was postponed due to the pandemic.

The Hong Kong Week, which is under a cooperation mechanism between Hong Kong and Wuhan that started in 2021, aims to strengthen exchanges and collaborations in arts, culture and creativity between the two cities, and will last until March 5.

The Hong Kong Public Libraries will also present the thematic exhibition "Hong Kong Martial Arts Novels" at the Hubei Provincial Library to introduce the development of Hong Kong's new-style martial arts novels, highlighting the literary achievements of famous writers like Jin Yong and Liang Yusheng

With the theme "A Voyage of Arts in the River Town", the arts festival features various shows and events from music, dance, drama to literature and traditional culture.

Audiences can visit different cultural venues across Wuhan to enjoy performances from renowned Hong Kong art groups, such as Qintai.City on Rivers.The Sound of Water by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Shan Shui: An Ode to Nature by the Hong Kong Dance Company, and Why We Chat? by Edward Lam Dance Theatre.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s Intangible Cultural Heritage Office will also display the "Delights of ICH - Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Video Show" at the Hubei Museum of Art to introduce a number of intangible cultural heritage items of Hong Kong, ranging from traditional rituals, craftsmanship to performing arts.

The Hong Kong Week is co-presented by the LCSD, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Wuhan Municipal Committee, the Wuhan Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Wuhan Municipal People's Government.

Audiences from Hong Kong SAR and the Chinese mainland will be able to watch some of the performances through the LCSD's Edutainment Channel and the mainland's streaming platforms in March.
