CE discusses boosting cooperation with Vietnam's Phuc

HONG KONG - Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu met on Saturday morning with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Lee exchange views on deepening Hong Kong's economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam and welcomed Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Hong Kong. The president said Vietnam values Hong Kong as a top trade partner.

Trade volume of the two sides rose sharply in the first nine months of this year to top $25 billion. More than 2,000 investment projects from the SAR are operating in Vietnam with a total value of nearly $30 billion

Speaking with reporters during a media session in Bangkok on Saturday night, Lee said he told the leaders he met at the APEC summit about “the good Hong Kong story, the advantages and the opportunities that are being offered by Hong Kong to the world”. 

“I also explained that Hong Kong is a place where the China advantage and the international advantage converge in a single city,” Lee said, adding that he also told them about the SAR’s advantage under "one country, two systems". 

“These are the advantages they recognized, and there are different areas of cooperation we can promote, such as Hong Kong being made an IT Hub, and also an art and cultural exchange centre,” he added.
