HK COVID caseload falls to 4.5K as 11 more die

HONG KONG – Hong Kong registered total 4,516 new cases of coronavirus infection, including 356 imported cases, and 11 related deaths on Thursday.

With 11 more people passing away from COVID-19, the city’s tally hits 10,226 during this latest pandemic wave, and 10,439 since the pandemic started

Meanwhile, 1,919 COVID-patients, including 231 new ones, are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, the Hospital Authority said in a statement. Among them, 42 patients are in serious condition while 41 in critical condition, it added.

According to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health, 261 of the imported cases were identified at the Hong Kong International Airport. Fifty-nine of the others tested positive during Day 1 to Day 3, and the remaining 36 from Day 4 to 7.

The Public Health Laboratory Services Branch had identified 208 cases of sub-lineage XBB, six of XBD, eight of BA.2.75.2, seven of BA.4.6, 11 of BF.7 and 25 of BQ.1.1 among the imported cases, said the CHP.

Seven cases of sub-lineage XBB, eight of XBD, one of BA.2.75.2 and 14 of BQ.1.1 have been detected among the local cases, it added.
