HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Observatory raised typhoon signal No 8 on Wednesday afternoon as Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae edged closer to the city.

Amid stonger winds, fewer local residents went out to the streets and windows of shopping malls were taped up for the sake of safety.

The HKO said in a weather bulletin that Nalgae will be very close to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.  Seas will be very rough with swells and showers over the territory will become more frequent later in the day.
