Wang Yi congratulates new Italian foreign minister

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister on Monday congratulated Antonio Tajani, on assuming office as Italy's deputy prime minister as well as minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation.

China and Italy, as comprehensive strategic partners, have over the past years overcome the impact of the pandemic, promoted the steady development of bilateral trade and economic ties, actively carried out cooperation on the Winter Olympics and the Year of Culture and Tourism, maintained close communication at the United Nations and the G20, and made new progress in China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership, Wang said in his congratulatory message.

The world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, he said, adding that China has always been committed to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, and stands ready to work with Italy and other countries in solidarity and cooperation to meet global challenges.

Wang voiced willingness to forge a good working relationship with Tajani, maintain regular communication on bilateral relations and international issues of common concern so as to make new contributions to the growth of China-Italy ties as well as that of China-EU relations.
