BERLIN - Bayern Munich have completed the transfer of defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, the defending Bundesliga champions announced in an official statement on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Dutch international penned a five-year deal and will stay with the "Bavarians" until June 2027.

"Matthijs de Ligt does not only impress with his style of play, but he is also the guy who always leads the way in all his teams. He learned to take responsibility at a young age. A strong team doesn't just need a strong attack and with this transfer, we are bolstering up our defense to an absolute top level," said Bayern Munich's chairman Oliver Kahn.

After 117 outings and 13 goals for Ajax, De Ligt opted for a transfer to Seria A club Juventus where he reaped the Italian domestic double as well as the Supercup after 117 appearances and eight goals

At only 17 years old, De Ligt made his breakthrough into Ajax senior team. He quickly developed into a cornerstone of the team and became the youngest team captain in Ajax club history. In his last year with Ajax, he was able to lift the domestic double in 2019.
