John Lee announces new-term ExCo members

HONG KONG - Chief Executive-designate John Lee Ka-chiu on Wednesday unveiled the new-term Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, featuring leaders from various political parties and professionals from diverse backgrounds. 

The council comprises 21 principal officials appointed under the political appointment system, and 16 non-official members. 

Veteran politician Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee will be the convener of the city’s new-term Executive Council. She is among the nine incumbent ExCo members to stay in the council. Seven new faces will join the city’s top advisory council, which is set to offer unbiased and impartial advice to incoming Chief Executive John Lee

The new non-official members include incumbent lawmaker Gary Chan Hak-kan, former director of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Eliza Chan Ching-har, former secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man, President of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Stanley Ng Chau-pei, Treasurer of the University of Hong Kong Margaret Leung Ko May-yee, incumbent lawmaker Chan Kin-por, Moses Cheng Mo-chi, who is a practicing solicitor and currently Chairman of the Council of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and Chancellor of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. 

Apart from Ip, the eight staying on will be non-executive Director and Deputy Chairman of the Bank of East Asia and a Basic Law Committee Arthur Li Kwok-cheung, vice chairman of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, leader of the Liberal Party Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, barrister and lawmaker Martin Liao Cheung-kong, former chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority  Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, Senior Counsel Ronny Tong Ka-wah, Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service and Chairman of the Elderly Commission Lam Ching-choi, Kenneth Lau Ip-keung, who is vice chairman of Wing Tung Yick Holdings and a lawmaker.

Their term will take effect on July 1, 2022, when the city’s sixth-term government will be sworn in.
