TCM experts visit Queen Mary Hospital

HONG KONG - A mainland expert panel on traditional Chinese medicine, led by Tong Xiaolin, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, continued its visit to Hong Kong on Monday.

In the morning, the expert group visited Queen Mary Hospital and met its medical team to share the experience on the treatment for patients infected with COVID-19. They also discussed Chinese and Western medicine collaboration and the application of Chinese medicine in the management of patients infected with COVID-19 thoroughly.

The mainland team also met with Hong Kong medical officials, including Cluster Chief Executive (Hong Kong West) of the Hospital Authority Theresa Li, Chief of Service of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Department of the QMH Lee So-lun, and Chair Professor of Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of The University of Hong Kong Lau Yu-lung.

In the afternoon, the expert group met with the representatives of the Chinese Medicine Hospital Project Office of the Food and Health Bureau. The office's Project Director Cheung Wai-lun introduced to the team the positioning, service plan, design concept, operation model and commissioning progress of the first Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong. They also discussed how to promote the development of the hospital in Hong Kong through training of professionals and development of services.

Led by Tong, also leader of the Mainland Chinese medicine expert group of the Central Authorities, the mainland expert group arrived in Hong Kong on March 29 to help the city in its fights against COVID-19.
