HONG KONG - Poll cards have been sent to about 4.47 million registered electors, the Registration and Electoral Office said on Thursday, 10 days ahead of the Legislative Council election.

In a statement, a spokesman for the office said electors can only cast their votes at the polling station specified on their poll card. “Those who have not yet received their poll card can log in to the Online Voter Information Enquiry System for information, or call the election hotline on 28911001,” a spokesman for the office said.

Electors must show their Hong Kong identity card and temporarily pull their mask aside at the ballot paper issuing desk at the designated polling station as instructed.

The  Registration and Electoral Office will open four mock polling stations for four days starting Dec 14 to help electors familiarize themselves with voting procedures. The mock polling stations will be set up at North Point Community Hall, Kwun Tong Community Centre, Tuen Mun Tseng Choi Street Community Hall and Tai Po Community Centre

The polling staff will scan the elector's Hong Kong identity card with the Electronic Poll Register system tablet and issue ballot papers.

Instead of the EPR system, the printed copy of the final register will be used for issuing ballot papers at polling stations without satisfactory wired network coverage and the dedicated polling stations, the spokesman said.

The office will open four mock polling stations for four days starting Dec 14 to help electors familiarize themselves with voting procedures.

The mock polling stations will be set up at North Point Community Hall, Kwun Tong Community Centre, Tuen Mun Tseng Choi Street Community Hall and Tai Po Community Centre.

“They will be open from 4 pm to 8 pm on Dec 14 and from noon to 8 pm from Dec 15 to 17,” the spokesman said.

Appointments by telephone or fax are required for group visits to the mock polling stations from Dec 14 to 17.

About 630 ordinary polling stations and not more than 24 dedicated polling stations will be open across the city on the polling day on Dec 19.

The polling hours for the ordinary polling stations and the three dedicated polling stations set up at police stations will be from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm.

For the dedicated polling stations set up at penal institutions, the polling hours will be from 9 am to 4 pm.

The office also said it had arranged 20 practice sessions on the Electronic Poll Register system for over 10,000 polling staff this week to ensure the issuance of ballot papers will proceed smoothly.

The staff who have attended the practice sessions this week include Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers (Information Technology) and Polling Officers.

The Polling Officers will issue the ballot papers to the eligible electors through the EPR system while the Assistant Presiding Officers (Information Technology) will provide technical support to the running of the system.
