Flag-raising ceremony, reception to mark National Day

HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will hold a flag-raising ceremony and a National Day reception on Friday to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. 

The police band will perform at the flag-raising ceremony, while singers Frankie Liu and Colette Lam will sing the national anthem

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and senior government officials will attend the reception followed by the flag-raising ceremony, which is scheduled at 8 am at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai, the government said in a statement.

The police band will perform at the ceremony, while singers Frankie Liu and Colette Lam will sing the national anthem. There will also be a fly-past and a sea parade performed by the disciplined services.

“In view of the current public health risk, no public viewing area will be set up for the flag-raising ceremony on Oct 1,” the government said.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the Lam will lead the celebration reception at the Grand Hall on Level 3 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Police will implement special traffic arrangements at Golden Bauhinia Square and the nearby area during the celebration events, the government added.
