HONG KONG-The central government’s top representative body in Hong Kong said on Monday that the special administrative region, being an inalienable part of China, cannot and will not miss out on the nation’s future development.

The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR also called on the people of Hong Kong to seize the historic opportunities arising from the nation’s development at an internal meeting to discuss the communique of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Communist Party of China Central Committee.
At the four-day plenum that concluded on Thursday, the CPC Central Committee passed the proposal for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on economic and social development and deliberated on long-term goals until the year of 2035.

The communique said that China will continue to deepen reforms in all respects and maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of the Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
The Liaison Office’s meeting reaffirmed that the principles of “one country, two systems”, “a high degree of autonomy” and “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” should be fully implemented during the city’s integration into the national development.

Hong Kong can provide comprehensive professional services and connect the Chinese mainland with the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, the office said in an online release.
While leveraging its strengths to serve the nation’s overall development, Hong Kong will find opportunities to restart its economy that has been hammered by last year’s social unrest and then the pandemic, the office said.
The proposals passed at the session clearly map out the directions, goals and strategic moves for the country’s development for the years to come, which will encourage Hong Kong residents to further grasp the opportunities brought by the country’s development, the meeting pointed out.

Calling the visions for the next five years and the long-range objectives until 2035 visionary, pragmatic and inspiring, the office said it is essential to understand the new challenges brought by the complex international environment and to stay alert to potential risks.
