Mainland reports no new local virus cases, 10 imported

BEIJING/SHIJIAZHUANG - The Chinese mainland reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the National Health Commission said Thursday.

There were 10 newly reported COVID-19 cases, five of which were posted in Shanghai, three in Guangdong and one each in Zhejiang and Sichuan, the commission said in its daily report.

One new suspected case arriving from outside the mainland was reported in Shanghai, but no additional deaths related to the disease were reported, it added.

Another 19 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while there were 177 patients still receiving treatment, including one in severe condition, according to the commission.

By the end of Wednesday, a total of 5,040 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 4,875 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 165 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

By Wednesday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland stood at 89,943, of which 85,130 had recovered while 4,636 had died of the disease.

There were two suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland by the end of Wednesday, and 5,043 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Wednesday also saw 14 newly reported asymptomatic cases, all arriving from outside the mainland. A total of 247 asymptomatic cases were under medical observation, of whom 244 arrived from outside the mainland.

By the end of Wednesday, 11,046 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 200 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 48 cases in the Macao SAR, and 958 cases, including nine deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 10,578 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, 47 in the Macao SAR, and 926 in Taiwan.

Hebei clears all COVID-19 cases

Hebei province, which was hit by a recent COVID-19 resurgence, saw its last five confirmed cases discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.

As all patients had recovered, the province now has zero registered COVID-19 patients or asymptomatic infections, according to the province's health commission.

The northern province has reported a total of 942 confirmed COVID-19 cases since Jan 2 in the latest viral resurgence, which subsided in February amid sweeping anti-virus measures.
