TEHRAN - Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif welcomed on Tuesday night his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani's call for dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Iran.

"Iran welcomes my brother FM (Al Thani)'s call for inclusive dialogue in our region," Zarif wrote on social media, official news agency IRNA reported.

Al-Thani said on Tuesday in an interview with Bloomberg that Qatar has urged GCC governments to engage in dialogue with Iran, and offered Doha's mediation.

Zarif further noted in his message that Iran has "consistently emphasized" that the solution to the region's challenges lies in collaboration in order to form a "strong region" which is "peaceful, stable, prosperous and free from global or regional hegemony."
