CBA: Guangdong defeat Beijing despite coach Du's ejection

ZHUJI - The Guangdong Southern Tigers sailed to a 127-109 victory over the Beijing Royal Fighters despite their head coach Du Feng's ejection, while point guard Sun Minghui made a return as the Zhejiang Lions overcame the Nanjing Monkey Kings 99-92 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Friday.

Beijing jumped to an 11-4 start on its way to a 35-32 advantage as the first quarter ran out.

Guangdong began to gain ground in the second period, outscoring Beijing by 10 points to turn the tide 67-60 at the break.

A brace of free throws from Marshon Brooks earned Guangdong an 11-point lead in the third quarter, and they faced little resistance from Beijing thereafter.

Brooks finished with a game-high 29 points. Sonny Weems pocketed 26 points. Du Runwang bagged 15, all from 3-point attempts.

In another game, Zhejiang amassed an 11-point margin through Feng Xin's jumper late in the first quarter.

Xiralijan Muhtar's three-pointer pulled Nanjing within three points, but Zhao Yanhao soon responded with a three pointer at the other end, and Hu Jinqiu followed in with a three-point play as Zhejiang held on for a 50-39 halftime lead.

Arnett Moultrie's four straight points cut the deficit within two points, but Nanjing failed to overtake Zhejiang afterward and had to sit bottom after swallowing its 10th straight skid.

Sun, who has been sidelined for a month, came off the bench in the second half, scoring four points and dishing out three assists.

Zhao led Zhejiang with 31 points and eight assists. Hu registered 25 points, and Miroslav Radulica had a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds.

On the Nanjing side, Moultrie posted 26 points and 12 boards. Freshman Yang Haozhe added 17.

Meanwhile, Lester Hudson had a game-high 34 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, as the Shandong Heroes rallied from a 10-point deficit heading into the final period to beat the Qingdao Eagles 110-106, handing the latter their eighth straight defeat.

Qingdao built its lead from the very beginning and went into the second half with a 54-51 lead.

Entering the fourth quarter trailing by 10 points, Shandong converted nine shots from 3-point range to complete a fightback.

Tao Hanlin had 18 points and 14 rebounds for Shandong. Jiao Hailong added 22 points. Wang Ruheng had 17 points and 10 assists.

Dakari Johnson led Qingdao with 31 points and 18 rebounds, and Zhang Chengyu added 17 points.

Also on Friday, Donatas Motiejunas' 28 points and 20 boards powered the Xinjiang Flying Tigers to a 109-99 win over the Jilin Northeast Tigers, the Shanghai Sharks crushed over the Tianjin Pioneers 121-96, and the Sichuan Blue Whales got over the Fujian Sturgeons 113-104.

The 31st round of games will commence on Saturday, with top-ranked Liaoning Flying Leopards again facing their former coach Guo Shiqiang and the Guangzhou Loong Lions.
