HK sees 31 new virus infections, including 9 of unknown origin

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 31 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, down from 59 a day ago, bringing the infection tally in the financial hub to 9,242.

Among the 31 new infections were 28 locally transmitted ones, of which nine were untraceable, said Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch at a briefing.

Among the 28 local infections, six were linked to the cluster originating from a construction site of the Central Kowloon Route-Central Tunnel project, said Chuang.

The three new imported cases reported on Saturday were from Turkey, Brasil and Germany, Chuang said.

The total number of coronavirus-related death in the city stood at 158.

A total of 601 patients are receiving treatment in 23 public hospitals and a community treatment facility, including 39 in critical condition, according to the Hospital Authority.
