The Chinese and US militaries have agreed to enhance dialogue, properly manage differences and cooperate in areas of mutual interest, Ministry of National Defense spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian said on Thursday.

Officials from the Central Military Commission's Office for International Military Cooperation and the United States' Department of Defense held a video conference on risk management on Wednesday and Thursday. They planned to hold another video meeting to share knowledge on humanitarian aid and disaster relief, Wu said.

The video conference followed a telephone meeting on Oct 20 during which officials exchanged opinions on matters of interest to both sides, Wu said.

The US side said it has no intention of creating a military crisis with China.

"The Chinese military is willing to maintain its principles of non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and proactively support developing Sino-US relations on the path of collaboration, cooperation and stability," he said.

"We hope the US side can work with China, reduce its animosity, stop its provocation, enhance dialogue and properly manage risks, so that it can play a constructive role in facilitating the stable development of military-to-military relations."

Wu also said that US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has clarified US media reports about possible US drone strike on Chinese islands.

US media has reported that the United States was contemplating drone strikes on Chinese islands in the South China Sea. Esper has told the Chinese side that the reports went against the fact, Wu said.

"The US side said it has no intention of creating a military crisis with China," Wu said, adding the US side had also said it was willing to build stable and constructive Sino-US military-to-military relations by creating necessary mechanisms to reduce risks, enhance dialogue and carry out cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
