Mainland sees 15 new imported cases, zero fresh local infections

BEIJING - No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Tuesday on the Chinese mainland while 15 fresh imported cases were posted, the National Health Commission said Wednesday.

Five of the new imported infections were reported in Sichuan, four each in Shanghai and Guangdong, and one each in Tianjin and Yunnan, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or additional deaths related to the disease were reported, it added.

Another 54 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that 347 patients were still being treated, with seven in severe condition.

By the end of Tuesday, a total of 2,447 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 2,229 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 218 remained hospitalized, with three in severe condition. No deaths from imported cases had been reported.

To date, the mainland had reported a total of 84,996 confirmed cases, including 80,015 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, the commission said.

In Beijing, all hospitals are cleared of COVID-19 cases, as the last two patients were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, local authorities said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the commission said there were currently no suspected cases on the mainland.

According to the commission, 11,915 close contacts were still under medical observation after 1,249 were released from observation.

Fourteen new imported asymptomatic cases were reported, and 365 asymptomatic cases, including 311 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.

By Tuesday, 4,710 confirmed cases, including 78 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 cases in the Macao SAR, and 487 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 4,108 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 457 in Taiwan, had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
