Beijing allows public transport to operate at full capacity

BEIJING – The Chinese capital has allowed buses and subways to operate at full capacity as part of easing restrictions imposed earlier to control the COVID-19 epidemic. 

Passenger capacity of buses has been raised from 90 percent to 100 percent while that of subway is up from 80 percent to 100 percent, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport. 

Wearing masks is compulsory on buses and subways, according to the commission.

Beijing reported no new COVID-19 cases Saturday, which is the 20th consecutive day without a new infection. No new imported cases or asymptomatic or suspected cases were reported either, the municipal health commission said Sunday. 

Eleven patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, the commission said in a daily report.

From June 11 to July 25, the city reported 335 confirmed domestically transmitted cases, of whom 42 were still hospitalized and 293 had been discharged from hospital after recovery. There were four asymptomatic cases still under medical observation, according to the commission.   

On Monday, the city lowered its COVID-19 emergency response from level II to III after having reported no newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 for 14 consecutive days.
