CBA: Shenzhen back to winning, Zhejiang power past Qingdao

DONGGUAN - Gu Quan, Shen Zijie and Li Muhao combined for 60 points as the Shenzhen Aviators won 92-76 over the Sichuan Blue Whales in the 2019-20 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday afternoon.

Shenzhen jumped out early, while the duo of Gu and Shen combined for 19 points in the first period, helping Shenzhen carve out a stunning 29-10 start.

Li Yuanyu had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Sichuan, while Shen Zijie got 18 points and 12 rebounds for Shenzhen

Sichuan recovered in the second, responding with an 8-0 run to pull within 11 points. However, five straight points from Shen from inside the paint gave Shenzhen the chance to regain a 46-31 lead into half-time.

Sichuan used another 8-0 spurt to close the gap within nine points before Li scored Shenzhen's next seven points, followed by Shen's putback, to reverse the tide.

Sichuan showed less will in the fourth quarter and Shenzhen finished the game with the win.

Li Yuanyu had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Sichuan, while Shen got 18 points and 12 rebounds for Shenzhen.

Shenzhen ended their three-game winning streak Tuesday after they lost to Fujian Sturgeons 106-99.

Sichuan will play back-to-back games against the Beijing Royal Fighters on Thursday night, while Shenzhen have a short break before facing the Shandong Heroes on Saturday.

Sun's 16 assists aid Zhejiang to victory

Five players scored double digits to power the Zhejiang Lions past the slumping Qingdao Eagles for a 100-88 victory on Wednesday.

Li Jinglong shot three for four from deep in the first quarter to help Zhejiang lead 20-16. Inspired by Sun Minghui, Zhejiang took charge of the game with a 14-2 run midway through the second that turned into a 36-23 cushion.

Sun's jump shot from beyond the arc at the buzzer ensured Zhejiang of a 50-37 lead into half-time.

Zhejiang went on a 12-2 run to open the second half, forcing Qingdao coach Wu Qinglong to call a timeout.

The margin was 77-57 at the beginning of the fourth quarter and Qingdao never put up a challenge, giving coach Li Chunjiang a chance to rest his players.

"I am happy with what happened on court. We need to go step by step, keep calm and prepare for the next game," Li concluded.

Sun scored 10 points and had 16 assists for Zhejiang, while Hu Jinqiu contributed a game-high 19 points.

For Qingdao, Wang Qingming got 17 points, while rookie Wang Ruize and Zhai Yi each had 12.

"We finished the game with 32 turnovers, and gave them too many chances, that's horrible. We must address those issues and deal with details better than we did today," rued Qingdao coach Wu.
