Since Saturday, about 61,000 people have signed their names online in support of the legislation.

Offline, Hong Kong residents were out in droves on Sunday to sign a petition in support of the law.

The alliance has set up over 130 city-wide street booths and a designated website to collect signatures supporting the legislation

In the launching ceremony of the signature campaign on Sunday morning, one of the convenors, pro-establishment legislator Starry Lee Wai-king, stressed that the NPC's proposal to introduce the national security legislation in Hong Kong is necessary to address the legal loopholes that are posing a mounting risk to national security.

The proposed national security law would ensure Hong Kong people’s well-being and the successful implementation of “one country, two systems” principle in the long-term, Lee said.

The alliance has set up over 130 city-wide street booths and a designated website to collect signatures supporting the legislation on Saturday.

Lee called on all residents who are firmly opposed to violence and foreign interference, and determined to safeguard the city’s stability and prosperity to speak out and sign up.
