16-month-old boy youngest COVID-19 patient in HK

HONG KONG - A 16-month-old boy was confirmed as Hong Kong’s youngest coronavirus patient as the number of infections in the city rose by three to 134 on Friday. One person was initially tested positive.

A 67-year-old businessman, who returned from London on March 8 and went to work the next day, was also confirmed to be infected on Friday, said Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health.

Another new case involved a 30-year-old woman who came back from Paris on March 5 after a tour to Greece, Britain and France. She fell ill after hiking with friends near Clear Water Bay on March 8, Chuang said.

Separately, a 61-year-old man was tested preliminary positive for the coronavirus. He visited his relatives in Colorado, the United States, between Feb 27 and March 10, and fly back Hong Kong via Japan. He started to feel unwell on March 7.

Meanwhile, an 80-year-old man, whose infection was confirmed on Feb 26, became the city’s fourth fatality linked to the disease on Friday, said Lau Ka-hin, a chief manager of the Hospital Authority.

The man suffered from high blood pressure and had a stroke which had made his conditions worse, said Lau.

He was husband of a 76-year-old patient who was a regular visitor to a Buddhist temple in North Point in connection to a cluster infection of 19 people so far. Both of them lived in the same high-rise building where the temple is also located.

As of Friday afternoon, a total of 77 patients have been discharged from hospital. Lau said that the toddler has a mild fever and a runny nose but was in stable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.
