England’s Premier League has suspended all soccer matches, a day after the manager of Arsenal Football Club tested positive for coronavirus.

England’s top level of the soccer league system said on Friday that all matches have been suspended “with the intention of returning on April 4, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.”

The Premier League said the Football Association, English Football League and Women’s Super League had also agreed to postpone the professional game in England following an emergency club meeting regarding future fixtures.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19, the Premier League club confirmed late on Thursday evening. And their London Colney training center has been closed.

"Arsenal personnel who had recent close contact with Mikel will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines. We expect this to be a significant number of people from Colney, including the full first-team squad and coaching staff, as well as a smaller number of people from our Hale End Academy which we have also temporarily closed as a precaution," said the London side.

Arsenal is due to play against Brighton on Saturday. "It is clear we will not be able to play some fixtures on their currently scheduled dates."

Three Leicester players showed symptoms of coronavirus and Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy in quarantine as a precaution for a family member admitted to hospital with symptoms of respiratory illness. Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has called for the season to be stopped.

Chelsea's Hudson-Odoi tests positive

Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi has tested positive for the coronavirus and all first-team players and coaching staff will now self-isolate, the Premier League club said.

"Callum displayed symptoms similar to a mild cold on Monday morning and has not been at the training ground since then as a precaution," Chelsea said in a statement.

“However, his test came in positive this (Thursday) evening and he will undergo a period of self-isolation. Despite testing positive for the virus, Callum is doing well and looking forward to returning to the training ground as soon as it is possible.”

“In the meantime, the men’s team building, one of several separate buildings at our training ground, will remain closed. The rest of our training facility, Stamford Bridge and other facilities are operating as normal,” the club added.

Everton’s first team squad and coaching staff are self-isolating after a player reported symptoms of COVID-19, the Premier League club said on Friday.

“The step has been taken after a first-team player reported symptoms consistent with coronavirus. The club is in regular contact with the player in question and is monitoring the wellbeing of all players and staff.”
