MADRID - Real Madrid will be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and left back Marcelo for the next fortnight after the club confirmed that Courtois has suffered an injury to his left abductor muscle, while Marcelo has a tear in his left hamstring.

The club confirms that Courtois will be sidelined for around two weeks, which also implies that he will also be unavailable to play for Belgium during the forthcoming international break.

The 27-year-old will miss his side's Liga Santander game at home to Eibar this coming Friday and the following league match, which is at home to Valencia. However, perhaps more importantly he will also miss the Champions League visit to Manchester City on March 17th.

Real Madrid lost the home leg 2-1 to Pep Guardiola's side and Courtois is vital to their options given that he has been in outstanding form in recent weeks and his replacement Alphonse Areola has not convinced since joining on loan from Paris Saint Germain.

In theory Marcelo should be easier for Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to replace with Fernand Mendy arguably more reliable in defense than the Brazilian, even though Marcelo had been first choice in recent matches.
