WARSAW - Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will be out for a month after fracturing his lower leg during Tuesday's Champions League win at Chelsea, Polish media reported on Thursday.

The Pole staged a significant performance at Stamford Bridge, scoring one goal and laying on two assists in Bayern's 3-0 victory, though the German club's joy was tempered by news of Lewandowski's injury.

"Robert Lewandowski fractured the tibia where it meets the left knee joint during the 3-0 victory at Chelsea. This is the result of an examination carried out by Bayern chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt upon the team's return from London on Wednesday. After 10 days of immobilisation in a cast, he will start rehab. The striker will be out for around four weeks", read an official Bayern Munich statement on Wednesday.

Poland's national team doctor Jacek Jaroszewski also commented on the situation. "The pain came a few hours after the match. Lewandowski underwent tests that showed a slight injury to the tibia in the area of the left knee. Although no major injuries have occurred, the player will receive treatment and will be out for several weeks," Jaroszewski said in an interview for the official website of the Polish Football Federation.

In the meantime, Lewandowski thanked everyone who had expressed their support in recent days. "Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will be back soon and I will be ready to fight", the player wrote on social media.
