BERLIN - Bayern Munich top striker Robert Lewandowski will be sidelined for approximately four weeks after suffering a knee injury, the German record champions announced in an official statement Wednesday.

Robert Lewandowski's left knee will be immobilized in a plaster for 10 days before the rehabilitation training will start

The "Bavarians" secured a 3-0 away victory at Chelsea on Tuesday but paid a high price as their prolific striker Lewandowski sustained a "fracture of the tibia in his left knee joint".

According to the club's statement, the Poland international will be out of action for four weeks.

Lewandowski's left knee will be immobilized in a plaster for 10 days before the rehabilitation training will start.

The injury is a huge setback for coach Hansi Flick as Bayern will be without Lewandowski, who scored 39 goals in 26 appearances this season, for the next six upcoming encounters.

Hence, the 31-year-old striker will miss the Champions League round of the last 16 against Chelsea, the German Cup quarterfinal match against Schalke and another three Bundesliga clashes.
