Shenzhen offers contactless service for HK visa applicants

HONG KONG -The Shenzhen authorities have set up a contactless visa application service for those who want to visit family members or relatives, study, work or attend training programs in Hong Kong amid the epidemic.

Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau said the green channel can keep human-to-human contact to a minimum level during application.

Applicants can make bookings in advance via phone, wait for the arrival of postal service staff to collect all required documents and complete payment online. The new visas will be mailed to the applicants. However, they will still be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Hong Kong.

Issuance of tourist and business visas remained suspended to minimize cross-border travels.

All border checkpoints between Shenzhen and Hong Kong are now closed except for the Shenzhen Bay one. Regular ferry service between Shenzhen and Hong Kong International Airport is operating normally for transit passengers.

As of Tuesday, Shenzhen has recorded 416 coronavirus infections with two fatalities.
