China expressed strong opposition to the United States' newly proposed outbound investment restrictions targeting China, warning that it reserves the right to take corresponding measures, the Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday.
The ministry made the remarks in response to a media query about latest proposed outbound investment rules released by the US Department of the Treasury on Friday for public comment.
A ministry spokesperson said the proposed rules would discriminatorily broaden the scope of investment restrictions targeting China, representing an abuse of the concept of national security.

The measures disrupt normal economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and US businesses and undermine the international economic and trade order, the spokesperson said in an online statement.
The official said China's large market offers substantial potential for consumption and investment, and that investing in China means investing in the future.

Restricting investment in China would not only undermine bilateral economic and trade cooperation but also harm the interests of US businesses, the spokesperson added.
China urged the US to respect market principles, stop overstretching the concept of national security and refrain from politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade issues.
