JAKARTA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday swore in Lieutenant General Kristomei Sianturi as the head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), replacing Lieutenant General Suharyanto.

The leadership change came as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been investigating alleged bribery and conflict of interest involving the agency's ready-to-use emergency funds.

On Wednesday, the KPK named five suspects in the case. All suspects have been detained.

The BNPB has been at the forefront of Indonesia's response to widespread forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and other disasters in recent months.
